I have a longing to be outside,
to sit on a hillside with a pen and a blank book,
to look at the world and think poetry.

I feel my soul pushing for space. It's like I've swallowed a balloon that's being blown up huge, this feeling of stretching and needing to grow inside. It makes me antsy and dreamy at the same time. I get lost in my own head.
I need to wander and have heart full to bursting and take deep breaths.
I need to follow the currents in my mind until they taper into silvery trails in the sand.
I need to rest.

Once you have a sister, to go too many years without her is a soul-wasting thing. A few weeks ago we said no to soul-wasting and yes to huddling around a laptop watching USC games streamed live in the middle of the night and long walks and the healing power of cheese. I need her, and she needs me, and these are good things.

I have a to-do list forty miles long. I am practicing tying scarves and peeking nervously at my passport and pinching myself when no one's looking, and I'm so grateful for the love and generosity that are making this trip possible. It feels like magic and a gift and the best kind of adventure all rolled into one.

i cant tell you how happy this makes me for you!! what an adventure!!
i've only been to airports in the UK. i long for real trips someday. <3
praying for you and this amazing gift and thanking the Gift-Giver.
p.s. i better have this baby before you go...
I've been dreaming of a trip to Europe, too . . . but it's Spain that's calling my name, and my heart.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you get to go see your sister. Sisters are necessary.
How exciting! My husband and I want to travel to England someday to visit his roots and then to Italy another time to visit mine. We can dream, right?
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful visit with your sister, and take lots of pictures!
Sharone, I am so excited for you!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been to London several times.
My best advice? Enjoy your sister and you will automatically enjoy whatever you will be doing in London.
If you have alone time, visit whatever you feel like. Nothing is a must, apart from enjoying this trip to your hearts content!!
Looking forward to hearing about it when you get back!

Oh I am so so happy for you. Sister time! It's absolutely the best, and double bonus when it happens in London! I've been before, once for business and once for the "vacation of which we will not speak." It wasn't London's fault, though. I love that city. (And I will tell you the whole London vacation epic fail story another time, maybe in January when I come visit you--a girl can dream, right?)
ReplyDeleteYay, yay, yay! So glad this trip is happening, pal! Well, the last time I was in the UK you were also there. What did we do again? Ha! I say you both should head to the street market in Notting Hill and buy as much cheese as your belly can feasibly digest. :)
ReplyDeleteIn my mind, I live in London. In body, my home is in Ohio.
ReplyDeleteHave a *wonderful* time. Melinda x
